At a time when the need for non-profit support has never been greater, local foundation, Social Venture Partners (SVP) Waterloo Region has selected three organizations to receive both financial and pro bono expertise to help better support the community they serve.
This year’s ‘Investees’ are Supportive Housing of Waterloo Region, COMPASS Refugee Centre, and The Children and Youth Planning Table.
“We had a number of worthy organizations apply this year,” says Rose Greensides, Executive Director of SVP Waterloo Region. “In fact, we were surprised by the volume of charities looking for support – a 50% increase. There’s no doubt given the state of our economy and the pressures facing people, that SVP Waterloo Region has never been more needed.” SVP Waterloo Region connects a network of top community builders with charities by providing unrestricted grant money, time and talent to make a significant impact in the local charitable sector. On the time and talent side, it could include free legal advice, business development expertise, human resources support and marketing guidance – all services that would simply be out of reach and budget for most charitable organizations.
“Volunteers are interested in strategic opportunities to share their expertise and help local charities across our region. People recognize the immense challenges these organizations now face in a post-pandemic world that looks much different than before COVID-19. There is a widespread desire within the community to make a positive impact and create a better future by supporting charities in their invaluable work,” says Allyson Kroetsch, SVP Partner and Board Vice-Chair.
SVP Waterloo would like to thank and acknowledge all the SVP Partners for their hard work during the selection process.
Since 2011, SVPWR has turned $730,000 of grant funding into almost $4.1 million of support for 35 local charities, working with each charity for up to three years and connecting them with hundreds of skilled volunteers through projects and events. Past Investees have included: Sexual Assault Support Centre Waterloo Region, Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health and Strong Start, among others.
